Monsoon-Induced Disasters Claim 203 Lives Across Country

Kathmandu: Monsoon-induced disasters have claimed the lives of 203 people across Nepal since June 10, according to the latest update from Nepal Police. The fatalities are attributed to various incidents, including landslides, floods, and inundation, which have severely impacted several provinces in the country.

Deputy Inspector General (DIG) and Spokesperson of Nepal Police, Dan Bahadur Karki, reported that the highest number of deaths occurred in Gandaki Province, with 56 fatalities. Other provinces affected include Koshi Province (28 deaths), Bagmati Province (42 deaths), Lumbini Province (37 deaths), and Karnali Province (13 deaths). The Kathmandu Valley recorded three deaths.

In addition to the loss of lives, 251 people sustained injuries due to the monsoon-related disasters. The highest number of injuries was recorded in Karnali Province, with 62 individuals injured. Rescue operations conducted by security agencies have saved 210 individuals, while search efforts continue for 154 people who remain missing.

The disasters have also caused widespread damage to infrastructure, with 408 houses, 123 cowsheds, 52 bridges, six schools, and two government office buildings reported damaged. The loss of livestock has been significant, with 924 animals perishing in the floods and landslides. Furthermore, 6,044 households have been displaced over the past two months due to the ongoing monsoon season.

Authorities are continuing their efforts to manage the situation, providing aid and conducting search and rescue operations in the affected areas.
